Dunamis Men of Dynamite Power, a Christian
ministry group, visited and performed at the Marine Memorial
Chapel here Feb. 21. The group travels the country performing
feats of strength and preaching the importance of
smart decision-making to young people.
“They are opening doors and connecting with the youth of this
nation,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Kevin D. Smith, Combat
Logistics Regiment - 15, supply staff noncommissioned
officer-in charge. "They are really pushing young people to
better themselves." Ripping phone books in half and bending
steel rods are just a few of the acts the group performed
throughout the night Between acts, the men of
Dunamis offered personal testimony to serve as
examples of how better decision-making can lead to a better
life. "We all got together because we have a passion for
helping young people," said Tim D. Spigner, a
member of the group. "We decided that if we can get through to
them while they're young, they will grow up with those beliefs
and influence others." The group began spreading its message
three years ago. They modeled their ministry after a man who
began his work more than 30 years ago.
There was a man who preached in prisons and
broke out of handcuffs to get his audience’s attention, said
Brett P. Keller, a member of Dunamis. "This
type of ministry does these feats of strength
to captivate the audience. It also helps us connect with the
younger generations."Dunamis has started performing in schools.
Although they are a Christian ministry, their focus within the
schools is to preach the importance of living a good life. "We
can't preach gospel in the school building but we can speak
about the importance of things like abstinence and living a
drug-free life," said Spigner. The group plans to continue its
tour, spreading its positive message to all
who choose to listen.
